Sympathy Daniels was born the daughter of a man who had been promised a son. He gave her her name (which was a joke to him) and from that moment forth, ignored her.

Her mother, Sonya, wasn't a particularly strong woman, nor a very good mother. She'd traveled to the place where Sympathy was born, Isla de la Apartar, because that was where Deadly Guillermo Daniels - her father - had been born himself and still occasionally called home. When Sympathy reached school age, she was sent away so that Guillermo wouldn't have to see her face upon his returns. Her mother died within months of her going away, from heartbreak or loneliness, or perhaps a liver infection due to her heavy drinking, nobody ever told her. From that time on, she had no contact at all with her father, and did her best to live her life without parental guidance.

While she was at school, Deadly Daniels sailed the seas stealing, murdering and mutilating many. He was captain of the pirate ship Remorse, the name of which was the first part of the joke that had lead to Sympathy's name. When asked by his victims and enemies, Daniels could say honestly that he did have Sympathy and he did have Remorse.

All she ever heard of her father were stories and rumors. Though most of them she discovered were definitely believable. From what little her mother had told her of him, from what she had observed herself, she didn't doubt the things she heard, and endured any mocking that came from her classmates. What else could she do? She shared her name with an infamous corsair.

One day, news of her father's demise reached her ears by way of a letter. The man who carried it told her nothing of the way Deadly Daniels had kicked the bucket, just handed her the sealed paper and left. She discovered upon reading that her father had apparently hated his first mate and entire crew more than he had hated having a daughter, because he had left his ship to her. When she read the words, a feeling rose in her that she'd never experienced. A desire to be at sea. Sympathy left school immediately and set out for the port where the ship sat. She discovered the crew still there, awaiting orders. Her first official act as captain was to have each crewman hanged and looted.

Picking up where Deadly Guillermo Daniels left off was more than easy for her. It was if he'd taught her exactly what to do. She found a new crew, one made of harder men and women than what her father had left behind, and set sail to make a name for herself. Which happened quickly and easily. The sight of the Remorse had always caused panic in the hearts of those who saw it, and that didn't change under Sympathy's command. She didn't mind getting dirty. She didn't mind killing. She certainly didn't mind following in her father's bloody footsteps. But she made sure that while people knew that she was the daughter of Deadly Daniels, they didn't make the mistake of thinking they had anything to do with one another.

Sympathy is a hard woman, but an educated one. She knows how to act in polite society, though she doesn't enjoy it very much. What she does adhere to are the ways and traditions of her heritage. She observes the holidays and rites of her religion steadfastly.

Despite her violent tenancies, she is very capable of getting along with others and is loyal to her crew and her allies. Unless of course they stab her in the back. She's been known to have friends, even close ones. She's taken lovers of both genders, though she's never had what might be considered a "steady".
Quirks:
~She is superstitious, believing in the power of curses and blessings, ghosts, demons, angels and various other things of that ilk.
~Sympathy tends to dress up in traditional garb on holy days and for celebrations.
~She will smoke, steal and drink, murder, maim and cuss, but not take the Lord's name in vain. She'll also chide anybody who does in her hearing.
~Likes to fight, even with her friends. But any fight started with friends is never taken seriously, no matter how harsh the words that are said, or how bruised her body is when she wakes the next day.
~Has never, and will never, wear a hat with seriousness in the intent.
~Doesn't usually brush her hair.

Weaponry: Proficient in fencing and carries a rapier. She also has a flintlock and can use it, but rather likes the intimacy of blades over the firepower of guns. For this reason, there are a couple of small blades she keeps carefully hidden on her person at all times. She's also quite good at brawling, having absolutely no style when it comes to hand to hand combat, she still has a raw power that gains her an advantage.
Magic: The Evil Eye. The power to curse anybody who crosses her. It is a power of The Devil, and while Sympathy isn't the nicest person alive, she does not believe in trucking with The Devil unless you have to. She uses this sparingly because of that.
Other:
~Sympathy can captain a ship and is skilled in manning any position on board.
~She can kill a man in many creative ways.
~She can also dance like a demon, the movements of such dances from Bolero to Salsa apparently built into her muscles.
~Sympathy tends to pepper her English with Spanish words, not really caring if people know what she's saying.
~She can do a rough cleanup of any injury, though it's likely to scar if she's had her hand on it.
~Sympathy smokes and drinks and often presses her vices on teetotalers for the fun of it.
~Gained the nicknames She Who Sees and Las Ojos partly because of her ability to use the Evil Eye, and partly because of the eye she has tattooed on her left shoulder.
~The waters of her home island, Isla de la Apartar, are believed to have healing properties.
